Hebrews 8.

Review:

1.     This morning the writer got across His explanation of how Jesus was not of the Levitical tribe, He still was our High Priest, and was so because God Almighty ordained Him through the Word.  “You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.”  ODRDAINED OF GOD.

2.    And confirmed by an everlasting life.  Heb 7:24-25  But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.  (25)  Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

So let’s see where the writer takes us in chapter 8;

Heb 8:1-13  Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;  (2)  A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.  (3)  For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.  (4)  For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law:  (5)  Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.  (6)  But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.

  • Right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens.

1.   We get a glimpse of this throne in Revelation;  The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.

2.  The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne

3.  Dan_7:9  I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.

4.  Rev_3:21  To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.  Rev_4:2  And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throneRev_4:3  And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.  Rev_4:4  And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.  Rev_4:5  And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.  Rev_4:6  And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.

It was said of Joseph;  Gen_41:40  Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.

Joseph was a perfect type of Christ.  His story is fascinating.

156 verses and 176matches were found in the search for throne.

But see how Paul explains this chain of command;

1Co 15:24-27  Then cometh the end, when he (Jesus) shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.  (25)  For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.  (26)  The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.  (27)  For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.

Read vs’s 2-6;

  • While on the mount receiving  the Commandments from God, God allowed Moses to look at how things were constructed in Heaven, and God said build according to what you have seen.
  • The things Moses would build on earth were a shadow of the heavenly things.
  • by how much also he (Jesus) is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.

NOW NOTICE:

(7)  For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.  (8)  For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:  (9)  Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.  (10)  For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:  (11)  And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.  (12)  For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.   The writer quotes from Jeremiah 31.

And for us, and the Hebrews, and all Christians, it was God speaking through Jeremiah telling us this truth, and being revealed by the Hebrew writer.

(13)  In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

Mat 26:26-28  And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.  (27)  And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;  (28)  For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Jesus fulfilled all the requirements of the O.T. law.  When on the cross He said, “It is finished.”

I’ve often thought of the relief that His Father had at this moment.  No more suffering, agony, and pain.  Just the beginning of a new covenant, with better promises.
