Eternal Judgment

Evening Service

Hebrews 6:1-3

Review:

1.      This morning I gave you Scripture why I don’t believe the Bible teaches that the soul is immortal.  There are so many more Scriptures it wasn’t just the ones I used this morning, but much more.

2.      This evening we want to look at some Scriptures concerning the last judgment, the lake of fire, which is the second death.

Let’s begin:

Mat 5:21  Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:

(Mat 5:21)  Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:

(Mat 5:22)  But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

The judgment - This was the tribunal that had cognizance of cases of murder, etc. It was a court that sat in each city or town, and consisted commonly of seven members. It was the lowest court among the Jews, and from it an appeal might be taken to the Sanhedrin.

This court was for wrongs done by individual people.

(Mat 10:15)  Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city.

  • We can see that this day of judgment is different than the first.

(Mat 11:22)  But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.

(Mat 11:24)  But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom, in the day of judgment, than for thee.

(Mat 12:36)  But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

(Mat 12:41)  The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and, behold, a greater than Jonah is here.

  • Shall rise in judgment.   And condemn this generation.  Because they repented at Jonah’s preaching.  Behold a greater than Jonah is here.

(Mat 12:42)  The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

  • Same thought as above.  Jesus said the Queen of the south, came from a great distance to hear the wisdom of Solomon.  She said, “the half has not been told.”   Jesus said, “and a greater than Solomon is here.”  Solomon would be the first to tell us that he wasn’t worthy to wash the Masters feet.  It was said of Jesus, “Never a man spoke like this man.”

NOW LET’S NOTICE:

(Joh 5:22)  For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:

  • Present, and future.

(Joh 5:27)  And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

(Joh 5:30)  I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

(Joh 9:39)  And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.

(Joh 12:31)  Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

(Joh 16:8)  And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

(Joh 16:11)  Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

APOSTOLIC TEACHERS;

Act 24:25  And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.

Rom 1:32  Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Rom 2:3  And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

  • Paul speaks in this whole chapter concerning the righteous judgment of God.  How that there is no respect of persons with God’s judgment.

Rom 5:12-21  Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:  (13)  (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.  (14)  Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.  (15)  But not as the offense, so also is the free gift. For if through the offense of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.  (16)  And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offenses unto justification.  (17)  For if by one man's offense death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)  (18)  Therefore as by the offense of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.  (19)  For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.  (20)  Moreover the law entered, that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:  (21)  That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Rom 14:10  But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at naught thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

2Co 5:10  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Heb 9:27  And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

2Pe 2:9  The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

2Pe 3:7  But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

1Jo 4:17  Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

Jud 1:6  And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

Rev 20:4  And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshiped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

THE FINAL GREAT WHITE THRONE JUDGMENT:

Rev 20:10-15  And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night forever and ever  (11)  And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.  (12)  And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.  (13)  And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.  (14)  And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.  (15)  And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

WE SEE A VERY TERRIBLE TIME FOR THOSE WHO’S NAME IS NOT WRITTEN IN THE LAMB’S BOOK OF LIFE.

THE JUDGMENT PUNISHMENT;  BEING CAST INTO THE LAKE OF FIRE.

THE ACT OF PUNISHMENT FOR MAN’S  SINS, IS BEING CAST INTO THE LAKE OF FIRE, AND BEING DESTROYED.

REMEMBER JESUS SAID, GOD COULD DESTROY BOTH BODY, AND SOUL IN HELL FIRE.

THIS PUNISHMENT IS FOR ETERNITY.  IT’S NOT THAT IT WILL BE PUNISHING FOR ETERNITY.

TO BE VERY ACCURATE ON WHAT JESUS SAID;

Rev 21:6  And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

Rev 21:7  He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

Rev 21:8  But the fearful, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

I BELIEVE ONE’S PART WILL BE THAT OF COMPLETE ANNILATION.  IT IS NOT MEANT TO TAKE AWAY THE SERIOUSNESS, OR TERRIBLENESS OF THIS PUNISHMENT, BUT I BELIEVE IT TO BE ACCURATE.

SHOULD WE NOT BE THANKFUL, AND DO OUR BEST TO SERVE HIM FAITHFULLY, IN WHAT HE HAS DONE FOR US?      I THINK SO.
